Mr. Ernest L. Matthews, age 74, husband of the late Emily Matthews, and a resident of Seavy Hight Rd passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Life Care Center in Columbia, Tennessee. Funeral services for Mr. Matthews will be Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Donald Paul officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Monday, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements and assisting the family. Mr. Matthews was born in Chattanooga, TN. He was manager of SuperRama Grocery Store and many local Columbians may also remember him when he served as a greeter at Wal-Mart. He belonged to the Gideons, the Shriners, and Parkway Baptist Church. He loved to watch western movies (especially, John Wayne) and enjoyed the Grand Ole Opry. His family states; he was a very loving husband to Emily, loving father, and he loved people and was very outgoing . Mr. Matthews is survived by two daughters; Doris "D.J." Matthews of Nashville, and Sharon (Danny) Tumlin of Dutton, AL., Two granddaughters; Lyndsi (Nick) Kohlmeier and Kasey Tumlin, one grandson, Kyle Tumlin, one great-grandson, Aiden Foshee; all of Scottsboro, AL. In addition to his wife Emily; Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Trimble and Virgil Matthews. Pallbearers will be Carl Moore, Terry Hayes, Ben Stoner, and the loving friends at Parkway Baptist Church. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of the North Wing at Life Care Center, David and Brenda Dupree, Yvonne Stoner, Kathy Tidwell, along with Gina and Keith Cone.
