Mr. David Allen Hughes, 57, former operator of The Boat Shop, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at his residence on Pamela Drive in Columbia. Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be conducted Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, 609 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, with Bro. Paul Lucas of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Lewisburg officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. A native of Maury County, Mr. Hughes was the son of the late Alfred Hugh and Hester Goodin Hughes. He was formerly married to Sheila Johnson Hughes Plant of Columbia. Mr. Hughes was a former long-time employee of Monsanto Chemical Company in both Tennessee and Georgia. He attended Zion Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hughes was an avid motor sports fan, and he enjoyed music and being a gear-head . His most treasured possession was his family, and the love he had for them. Mr. Hughes is survived by his sons, Tim Hughes of Columbia, Kris (Laura) Hughes of Manchester, Aaron (Jessica) Hughes of Chapel Hill, Jeremy (Deanna) Hughes of Mt. Pleasant, Jason (Marissa) Hughes of Columbia; a special companion, Linda Blocker of Columbia; brothers, Alfred Butch Hughes of Enterprise, Tommy (Dolly) Hughes of Washington, and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Deva Mae Hughes and Doris Johnson. Sam Haywood will serve as a honorary pallbearer. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice in honor of Mr. Hughes.
