Wayne Smith

B. Wayne Smith, 62, well-known contractor, and resident of Dover Drive in Columbia, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his residence. Services for Mr. Smith will be conducted Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Roberts and Rev. Harold Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Maury Memorial Gardens, Garden of Peace. Military Honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 5:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith was born in Davidson County and raised in Williamson County. He was the son of Rachel Foster Smith of Culleoka, and the late Buford Beech Smith. He was a 1965 graduate of Franklin High School. In 1981, Mr. Smith married Wanda H. Smith, who survives. He owned and operated Wayne Smith Construction Company from 1974 " 2008. He was currently affiliated with Bassham Excavating Company. Mr. Smith was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. He was the contractor for Parkway Baptist Church and was very instrumental in the locating and building of their current facility. In addition to his dedication to his career, he was an avid hunter, fly fisherman, and boater. Mr. Smith served 6 years in the Air National Guard as a firefighter, and served on the committee of Friends of NRA. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by; a grandson, Brandon Biltcliffe of Columbia; a step-son, Lewis Biltcliffe of Columbia; two sons, Yancey (Allison) Smith of Columbia, and Christopher (Michelle) Smith of Lexington, Tennessee; a sister, Anita (Tony) Simmons; a brother, Gary Foster Smith of Columbia; a niece, Amanda Smith of Columbia; three nephews, Cody (Jennifer) Smith of Santa Fe, Phillip (Misty) Simmons of Culleoka, and Weston (Ashley) Simmons of Pulaski; grandchildren, Perrin Smith, Hadley Smith, Cory Smith, Kristen Smith, Garrett Smith, Gage Smith, and Gatlin Smith. Pallbearers will be Mike Bassham, David Burton, Laccie Anderson, Danny Davidson, Sonny Hargrove, Lewis Biltcliffe, David Goodness, and Phillip Lewis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Adams, George Jones, Tommy Bolton, Billy Sims, employees of Bassham Excavating, neighbors Carriage Hills, Friends of NRA, and members of Parkway Baptist Church.
