James Richie Jewell, Jr.

November 12, 1953 - January 16, 2007

James Richie Jewell, Jr., 53, a native of Maury County and a resident of Gold Valley Drive in Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Funeral Services for Mr. Jewell will be conducted Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Churchyard. The family will visit with friends, Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Services, and Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. The Maury County native is the son of James R. Jewell, Sr. of Santa Fe and the late Deva Mae Hughes. He was a pipe fitter by trade for several years and a member of the 101st Air Mobile Unit of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished welder and fabricator; well-known musician; car and motorcycle enthusiast. He was active in Twelve Step work for many years. He is survived by his son, Jay (Andrea) Jewell of Murfreesboro; brother, Roger W. Jewell of Theta; nieces, Sara Mae Jewell and Naomie Shane Holt; the mother of his son, Kathy Diane Hardison. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Ocie Dillard and Ruth Mae Gabel Jewell of Hickman County; maternal grandparents, Alfred Hugh and Hester Goodin Hughes of Pulaski County, Kentucky; and a brother, Daniel Paul Jewell. Pallbearers will be Rocky Lane Derryberry, Ronald Brandon Hilton, Donnie Gibson, Tom English Caulk, Jr., Alfred H. Hughes, Jr., and Richard Hughes.
