Mr. Allen Duane Bean, 53, a resident of Williamsport Pike, and formerly of Bastrop, Texas, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services for Mr. Bean will be conducted Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Denise Nutt-Beers officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Chenoa, Illinois. Born in Chenoa, Illinois, he was the son of the late Clifford and Ethel Wurtz Bean. While attending school at Chenoa High School, he excelled in football, baseball, track, wrestling, honor student, Math Club, Chess Club, Student Council President and a candidate for Eagle Scout. In 1989, he was married to Lisa Sommers Bean. He was president of the Klan McBean, where he participated in the Highland Games. In 1979, Mr. Bean received his Bachelor of Science in Geology from Illinois State, and had many well-know geological findings in Texas due to his expertise in the field of geology. He was responsible for the Audio-Visual Department and Science Sections while at Illinois State. He was Council President of the United Commercial Travelers of America, and was a volunteer firefighter. Mr. Bean was an avid hunter, did tanning, participated in many wilderness hunts, and was an expert marksman in mussle-loading and the compound bow. He formerly owned and operated Beans Flooring in Bastrop, Texas and, currently was a partner of Two Guys Trim. He was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church. In addition to his many achievements, he was a master gardener, collected coins, played brass instruments, a talented wood crafter, and was a Cubs fan. Mr. Bean donated blood to the American Red Cross on a regular basis, supported and donated to activities of the Maury County Sheriffs Department and the Tennessee State Troopers. As of 2005, Mr. Bean holds wrestling records for fastest pins. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a Godchild, Jason Hatch Gibbons of Columbia, TN; brother, Ellwood (Dorothy) Bean of Chenoa, IL; father-in-law, Lawrence C. Sommers of Corpus Christi, TX; sister-in-law, Linda Ann Sommers of Corpus Christi, TX; several aunts and uncles, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Bean and his mother-in-law, Louise Sommers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Terry, Jim Bob James, Tim Gilley, Bob Roach, Hank Belcher, Roger Moore, Dale Moore, Tony Gilliam, and Jerry Heberer. Memorials may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 1818 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203 or the American Cancer Society, In Memory of Louise Sommers and Ethel Wurtz Bean, 2000 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37203.
