Mrs. Leta Burton Van Matre, 77, a resident of Creekstone Drive in Columbia and former long-time resident of Channelview, Texas, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. A private family service will be held at a later time. The Wyoming native was the daughter of the late Clyde and Lorraine Wright Burton. She was married to the late Paul Clay Van Matre. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was a very fun loving person. She was a member of VFW in Houston, Texas and a member of Eagles, also of Texas. She was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter, Debra (Jim) Teller, Channelview, Texas; two sons, Lewis (April) Van Matre of Columbia and Joseph Van Matre of Columbia; two sisters, Lola Buckner of Wyoming and Lila Haines of Eugene, Oregon; two brothers, Loyd (Martha) Burton of Kender, Wyoming, and Lyle (Judy) Burton of Hyanis, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Robbins; a son, Jimmy Van Matre; and a sister Lucille Hayward. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.heritage-fhcs.com.
