Mrs. Emily Giles Matthews, 72, wife of Ernest L. Matthews, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at her residence near Culleoka. Funeral Services for Mrs. Matthews will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Donald Paul and Chris Alonso officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday, April 30, 2010 from 5:PM " 7:PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home will be assisting the family and is in charge of arrangements. Born in Gadsden, AL, she is the daughter of the late Lola Lyles and the late Jesse Will Giles. She was co-manager with her husband at Super Roma Foods and was later a cashier at Harris Foodland. Mrs. Matthews is a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Columbia. She was very active in her church and a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. The many interest in her life included her love for gardening, she enjoyed flowers, and was a pet lover. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters; Doris (D.J.) Matthews, and Sharon (Danny) Tumlin of Dutton, AL., Two granddaughters; Lyndsi (Nick) Kohlmeier and Kasey Tumlin, One grandson, Kyle Tumlin, One great-grandson, Aiden Foshee; all of Scottsboro, AL. Two sisters; Gin Giles of Orange City, FL and Evelyn Taylor of Gadsden, AL; One Heart Adopted son, Terry Hayes of Columbia; One special nephew, John Giles of Deland, Fl; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by Two brothers, Joe Giles and Claude Giles, a nephew, Billy Giles and several other brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be Kyle Tumlin, John Giles, Clay Pruitt, Ben Stoner, James Watson, Derrick Hayes, Carl Moore, and Terry Hayes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dave & Brenda Dupree, Yvonne Stoner, Kathy Moore, Peggy Thrasher, Diane Williams, Ruth Ann Peveahouse, members of The Joy Sunday School Class of Parkway Church, Former Employees of Super Rama & Harris Foodland and the staff of the North Wing at Life Care Center. The family requests that memorials be made to McDonald House or American Leukemia Society.
