Mrs. Ellen Meeks Strickland, age 94 and a resident of Pulaski, Tennessee, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at NHC-Hillview in Columbia. Services celebrating the Mrs. Strickland's life will be conducted at a later date and will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements. Mrs. Stickland was born April 18, 1918 in Nashville, TN, one of five children of Omahundra (Omar) Stratton and Bertha Maude Meeks Stratton. Following high school, she enrolled to take a few art classes which provided her the foundations of expressing her artistic talents. She was a lifelong resident of Riverside, California, living there from age 5 until her relocation to Tennessee two years ago. During her life, she was a homemaker, providing a special place for her husband: Edward, and daughter: Carole. Ellen will be remembered for her creativity and artistic talents, as well as her outgoing and social personality. While her husband served as a Captain for the Riverside (CA) Fire Department, Ellen was an active member of the Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed travelling and quilting, as well as being blessed to live her 94 years without any major medical issues. Her personal faith was expressed through her membership at the 7th Day Adventist Church, most recently in Pulaski. Ellen Strickland is survived by her daughter: Carole Bugg of Pulaski; two brothers: Omar Stratton of Los Angeles, CA and Ralph Stratton of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; and two grandsons: John M. Bugg of Kent, WA and Steven C. Bugg of Austin, TX. You may send condolences to the family at the top of this page.
