Frances G. Bassham

Mrs. Frances G. Bassham, age 86, wife of Minister Olan Bassham, and a resident of Jewell Drive in Columbia, Tennessee passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services for Mrs. Bassham will be conducted on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Elder James Heatherly and Brother Danny Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and then again on Monday from 10 AM until the service hour. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. A native of Enterprise, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Hugh J. Douglas and the late Grace (Daniels) Douglas. She was a member of the Highland Church of Christ. She and husband were married for over 70 years. They served many churches of Christ during their years together. They served in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and then in Tennessee in Columbia, Manchester, Sparta, Nashville, Covington, Summitville, and after moving back to Maury County, they served rural churches in Lawrence and Maury counties for 11 years. She was a devoted and loving mother and help mate to her husband. While serving the members of the churches, she never neglected her ministry of caring for her husband and children, Terry and Dawn. She was quiet and reserved, yet her love and devotion was evident in all she did. Her many years of dedicated service and devotion are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. Now Frances has moved home to be with her Lord which the Apostle Paul said is "far better" than anything this earth offers. In addition to her husband Olan of over 70 years, she left behind to cherish her memory two children: Terry Bassham of Somerville, TN and Dawn (Emory) Vankirk of Wichita (Derby), KS; two grandchildren: Lisa Demike of St. Paul, MN and Taylor Bassham of Manchester, TN; three great grandchildren: Hunter, Jake, and Caroline Nickoloff of St. Paul, MN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Campbell Douglas, Hugh J. Douglas, Jr., James Douglas, Murray Douglas and Virgil Douglas.
