Mr. Ross C. McGee, 89, well-known excavation contractor, real estate developer, owner of McGee Properties, and a resident of Yeatman Lane in Columbia, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at NHC Healthcare of Columbia.Funeral Services for Mr. McGee will be conducted Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Bro. Wendell Robinson and Rev. Jim Ledbetter officiating . Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday, November 21, 2008, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Charles and Beatrice Fizzell McGee. Mr. McGee was a member of the DAV Chapter 22 of Columbia and the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He was a veteran of World War II , and was an active part of the Battle of the Bulge serving in General Pattons 3rd Army 4th Armored Division. In 1949, he married Mary Jo White McGee, who survives. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed his family; children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. He was happiest being active. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Pam (Dr. Vance) Hendrickson of Mt. Pleasant, TN and Connie (Larry) Taylor of Brentwood, TN; brother, G. C. McGee of South Bend, IN; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Kevin) Miller of Columbia, TN; grandsons, Brent (Meghan) Hendrickson of Cookeville, TN and Christopher Ross Taylor of Brentwood, TN; great-granddaughters, Isabella Miller and Mary Kate Miller of Columbia, TN; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellie McGee and Billy McGee; three sisters, Sarah Brannon, Mary Elizabeth Johnson, and Ruby Chmiel. Active Pallbearers will be Brent Hendrickson, Christopher Taylor, Kevin Miller, Eric Hendrickson, Kyle Hendrickson, Dr. Burt McGee, John McGee, Jimmy McGee, Ralph Johnson, and Keith White. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Jerry McGee, Hyman Frank, W. G. Franks, W. O.
