Dorothy Nichols Dottie Denton, 81, widow of Ed Denton and a resident of Buena Vista Drive in Columbia, died Friday, July 17, 2009 at her home. Services for Mrs. Denton will be conducted Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 609 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia with Rev. Thomas Vann and Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery in Culleoka, Tennessee. The family will visit with friends Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A lifelong resident of Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse L. Nichols, Sr. and Lillian Tinney Lindsey. She retired after 34 years as executive secretary for Monsanto Chemical Company. Mrs. Denton was an avid gardener, loved spoiling her family and friends, and enjoyed bird watching. She was a lifetime member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church and their former organist. She is survived by her sister, Jane (Ed) Lawwell of Columbia; brothers, Jesse L. Buddy (Nelda) Nichols of Columbia and Jerry Wayne Nichols of NHC Hillview; niece, Lindy Lawwell (David) Gagnon of Murfreesboro; nephew, Thomas E. Tommy Lawwell of Atlanta, Georgia; great-niece, Linden Gagnon; and great-nephew, Ryan Gagnon. Pallbearers will be George Knox, Fred Greer, Ray Locke, Ron Sellars, Roy Cockrell, Joe Foster, Jimmy Fogg, and Frank McBride. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church, sitters of Jerry Nichols, and Dr. Gibran Naddy.
