Henry G. (Rusty) Shannon, Jr.

November 3, 1941 - March 24, 2010

Mr. Henry G. Rusty Shannon, Jr., 68, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at his residence on Westgate Court in Columbia. A memorial graveside service will be conducted at the Bonaventure Cemetery (Greenwich addition) in Savannah, Georgia at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The Savannah, Georgia native was the son of the late Henry Griggs Shannon, Sr. and Pauline Harvey Shannon and was the husband of Cheryl McMillan Shannon of Columbia. He was a communicant of the St. Catherine Catholic Church. Mr. Shannon was a retired manager for civilian travel through Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah. He was affiliated with several of the major airlines in the United States in assisting with making various types of travel arrangements. The pride and joy in his life were his precious grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, boating, vacationing at the beach and relaxing on the water. He enjoyed reading, gardening, watching football and was a craftsman of all trades. He was the type of person that put "service before self". He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Henry G. Trey Shannon,III of Columbia, TN; a daughter, Stephanie (Dr. Shaun) Corbin, of Columbia, TN; a sister, Carol Shannon of Columbia, TN; three grandchildren, Christian, Grey, and Ava Corbin all of Columbia, TN; a niece, Catherine (Todd) Williams, of Atlanta, GA; a nephew, Christopher (Marina) Libutti of Culleoka, TN.
