Mrs. Vivian Lorraine Smith Tanner, 86, a resident of Early Road in Columbia and former long-time resident of Orlando, Florida, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Rosewood Manor. Funeral services for Mrs. Tanner will be conducted Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Joe Maples officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A native of Matewan, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Franklin David Smith and Magnolia Hughett Smith. She was the widow of Raymond Tanner. She was a retired real estate agent having been associated with First Florida Realty. Prior to her profession in real estate, she had worked as a waitress, sitter for the elderly, and as an electronic technician in Detroit, Michigan. She was an avid gardener, particularly vegetables, and she loved working in the yard. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Atkins of Columbia; Nancy (Gary) Connelly of Columbia; a son, Elvin Dewey Atkins, of Pittsburgh, PA; sisters, Louise (John) Hanna of Traverse City, MI and Jennis (Bill) Smith of Corpus Christi, TX; brother, Homer Leelan (Marge) Smith of Grand Rapids, MI; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis Gail Smith Humes, Lillian Ristan, Denada Smith Post; three brothers, George William Smith, Luther Smith, Darrell Smith; and a beloved pet, Cody. Pallbearers will be Gary Connelly, Wayne Connelly, Casey Connelly, Alan Connelly, Aaron Connelly, and Jason Connelly. Honorary pallbearers will be Beau Connelly and Jacob Connelly.
