Joseph Alex Mihalek

Joseph Alex Joe Mihalek, 63, formerly of Pontiac, Michigan, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at his residence on Cothran Road in the Bear Creek Community. Funeral services for Mr. Mihalek will be conducted Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with William Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A native of Pontiac, Michigan, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel Blanche Keller Mihalek. He was married to Ronda Vick Mihalek, who survives. Serving in the United States Air Force, he served his country during the Vietnam conflict. Mr. Mihalek was a former locksmith for Mosler Safe Company in Detroit, where he was employed for 10 years. He was retired from General Motors (Saturn Corporation), where he worked as a Quality Technician in body systems. He was currently employed at the Maury County Solid Waste Convenience Collection Center on Carters Creek Pike. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed bowling, the Titans, and NASCAR. He was a master craftsman to his home and a computer technician. Mr. Mihalek was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Every Monday, you would find him at Panchos Place for dinner followed by Trivia with neighbors, William and Teresa (the friendly neighbors). In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Shawn (Virginia) Mihalek of Woodbridge, VA; Scott (Zella) Mihalek of Chapel Hill, TN; Stacy Mihalek of Lewisburg, TN; four granddaughters, Julia Mihalek, Jillian Mihalek, Emily Jo Mihalek, Karson Mihalek; two grandsons, Joshua Mihalek, Joseph Mihalek; a brother, Leo (Shirley) Mihalek of Dallas, GA; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, Sambo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Emerson Berney and Martin Berney. Pallbearers will be David Lee, Mark Ledford, Mike Niezgoda, Bill Berney, Duane Berney, and Jed Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Saturn Corporation, employees of Maury County Solid Waste Convenience Center on Carters Creek Pike.
