Mr. John Lee Braswell, Sr., age 60, and a resident of Newt Hood Road in Columbia passed away Friday September 21, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Hubert Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in Neapolis Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Monday, September 24, 2012 from 5:00 " 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements. A native of Nashville, TN, John was born on August 31, 1952. He was the son of the late Vallace Allen and Lili Mai Aldridge Braswell. He was a painter by trade, who also collected guns, knives, stamps, coins, and other novelty items. He was a member of the N.R.A and a member of the American Legion. He especially enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family which he loved so much. John also served in the United States Navy. He is survived by two sons: John Lee (Jessica) Braswell, Jr. of Toney, AL; George (Katarzyna) Braswell of Decatur, AL; daughter: Christy Elder (Larry McWhorter) of Toney, AL; and sister: Elaine (Gerald) Knight of Columbia, TN. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jasamine Braswell, Larry McWhorter, Jaida Braswell, William McWhorter, Harley McWhorter, and Gabriel Braswell. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife: Sandra Hughes and brother: Edward Braswell. Pallbearers will be his two sons, John and George, as well as: Larry McWhorter, Jim Hayden, Terry King, and Brian Stutts. You may send condolences to the family at the top of this page.
