Gilbert "Wayne" McCarter, 64, died July 29, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. Services for Mr. McCarter will be Monday, August 1, 2011, 11:00 AM at McPeters Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow at the Corinth National Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Monday 9:00 AM until service time. Mr. McCarter was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1966 to l970. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Lily McCarter and Charlie and Ocie Bass. Survivors are his parents, Sonny and Louise McCarter of Shelbyville, TN; a son, Bert (Katie) McCarter of Murfreesboro, TN; a daughter, Nina (Samuel) Sawyers of Gallatin, TN; grandchildren, Georgianne, Matthew and Maddox McCarter, Julius and Alissa Sawyers; his brothers, Gary McCarter (Marty) of Germantown, TN; David McCarter (Carol) of Michie, TN; his sister Kristi McCarter Lane of Shelbyville, TN; a host of nieces and nephews. Memorial may be made to the LeBonheur Children's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital of Memphis. Franklin Family Funeral Service & Cremations are assisting the family with local arrangements.
