Jane Morris

December 1, 2012

Cora Jane Tisdale Morris, 97, left this life in the early morning hours of December 1st, 2012 to join her Savior and many members of her earthly family. Jane was born on July 28, 1915 in Macon, TN, the second child of Annie and Ivan Tisdale. She was the sole surviving sister of a family of four girls. She was a resident of The Lantern at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Columbia, TN, and prior to that at The Bridge of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents and three sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Fred) Mullen of Water Valley, TN; a son, Ivan C. Dutch (Mollie) Morris of Amarillo, TX; six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; special friend Kay Monteaux and many nieces and nephews. Jane was a proud life-long member of the Church Of Christ and shared her love of the Savior throughout her life and taught her children to honor that commitment. Over much of her 97 years she was gifted with an ability to create intricate needlework for family and friends in the form of needlepoint, crocheted tablecloths, crewelwork, clothing and other beautiful objects. Knitting was another skill at which she was particularly adept and many of the afghan throws, coats and shawls are used with appreciation today. She was also fond of creating ceramics. Friends and family treasure many of her artistic pieces. Jane was particularly proud of the pine needle baskets and decorator pieces she taught herself to make and delighted in giving them away. She will be remembered for her commitment to helping her children and friends in times of need with generosity, accepting the challenge without complaint. Her devotion to Carl, her husband of nearly 65 years is an example for all to follow. Jane was fond of music and loved to sing and hear others sing, particularly acapella music. She delighted to hear her family vocalize and was not shy about asking them to share their talent with others especially at family gatherings. Songs and hymns by grandchildren, family and friends helped to smooth her transition in her final hours. Her life was filled with travel around the world as an Air Force wife. She was fond of being outside, working the earth, planting flowers and trees, camping and enjoying that which nature has to offer. Most of all she embraced and loved her family and she will be missed. The family would like to thank Hospice Compassus for their assistance and caring, the staff members at Morning Pointe and The Bridge for their compassion and attentiveness. Our thanks also go out to the staff at The Lantern, and last but certainly not least, to our special angels at The Bridge, Karla and Carol. Your care for both Jane and Carl was extraordinary. Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia, TN is assisting the family and will provide cremation services. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Williamsport. Memorials may be sent to Hospice Compassus, 1412 Trotwood Ave., Suite 5, Columbia, TN. Condolences may be sent to the family at the Heritage Funeral Home website, www.TnFunerals.com.
