Elizabeth Dawn Burgett Vaughn

March 26, 1972 - December 22, 2012

Elizabeth Dawn Burgett Vaughn, age 40 of Ft. Campbell, KY and formerly of Columbia, TN, passed away on December 22, 2012 at the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital on post, ending her courageous battle against breast cancer that was first diagnosed in February 2010. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 28 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Dr/Pastor Ted Estes. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg, TN. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, December 27 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, and again on Friday from 9:00 AM until the funeral hour at 11:00. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Elizabeth was the daughter of Doug and Rebecca Westmoreland Burgett, Sr. of Columbia. She was a 1990 graduate of Columbia Academy. She then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Statistics from the University of Memphis in 1994. From 1997-2003 she studied at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK. During that time, she took an opportunity to travel to Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam to do mission work. In 2000, Elizabeth started the Native American Outreach ministry called "Eagle Rock." She also had the opportunity to serve with the Salvation Army following the 9/11 attacks with a recovery clean-up ministry team in New York City. She completed her Masters of Divinity at ORU in 2003. In late 2003, she returned to Columbia, where she met Trey Vaughn in December. Five weeks later, on January 24, 2004, she married Trey at the Point Loma Submarine Base Chapel in Point Loma, CA. Her love for travel continued as she and Trey had opportunity to visit Italy and Hawaii together before the birth of their daughters, Molly and Maddy. Elizabeth was an entrepreneur in marketing and sales with Send Out Cards, ARBONNE, and Lu's Jewelry. She was a collector of antiques and enjoyed crafts of many kinds. She enjoyed cooking with Trey and for her girls. Her experiences of life were kept in journals that she wrote, along with endless photographs. Out of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit, found in 1 Corinthians 12, Elizabeth had discernment, wisdom, tongues, healing, knowledge, prophecy, and above all ~ faith. There was never a day where she didn't have a devotional time with her Lord. Her life motto was, "Always remain faithful unto Jesus, and keep life simple, with a smile." Elizabeth's favorite verse was Ps. 118:17: "I will not die but live, and will declare the works of the Lord." She declared life abundantly unto Jesus through her solid faith and to all she knew. In addition to her husband, Trey, she is survived by her precious daughters: Molly Lane Vaughn (age 5) and Madeleine Esther Maddy Vaughn (age 4); her parents: Doug and Rebecca Burgett, Sr. of Columbia; a brother: Doug (Shelia) Burgett, Jr. of Moss Point, MS; two sisters: Dona Carnahan and Diane (Evan) Allen, both of Columbia; an uncle: James (Nema) Westmoreland of Oklahoma City, OK; and 5 nephews and 4 nieces. The family requests that memorial donations are made to Tri-Star Bank, 1909 Shady Brook Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be sent to the family at the top of this page.
