Ellen "Ellie" Katherine Nyhus

December 15, 1992 - April 30, 2011

Ms Ellen Ellie Katherine Nyhus, age 18, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee and the daughter of Charles Nyhus and Mary Margaret (Schwartz) Nyhus passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Tuesday, April the 26th. A Traditional Catholic Mass for Ms Nyhus will be held on Thursday, May 05, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine Catholic Church on Cayce Lane with Father Davis officiating. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 pm that same day at Heritage Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home. During the visitation, a Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 pm. Interment at Black Lake, Michigan will be announced at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. A native of Columbia, Tennessee, Ellie was the oldest of three daughters to Mr. and Mrs. Nyhus. She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church. Ellie was always an intelligent and outgoing young lady. She held a dual enrollment with Columbia Central High School and Columbia State. She loved to get involved with people and participate in special events. Her special interest was her love for English and History and her gift of writing. She was a past member of the Chorus at Central High School; from which she was to graduate on May 26th 2011. She was the president of the National Honor Society, a member of the Beta Club and the Academic Team at Columbia Central. Ellie was graduating 17th in her class with a GPA of 3.94 percent. She was looking forward to attending the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga for which she had received an academic scholarship. She enjoyed working at the Lily Jane Boutique here in Columbia. Her sweet and loving ways and the brightness she brought into each day will truly be missed by all. In addition to her parents, she left behind to cherish her memory her two younger sisters: Erin Margaret Nyhus age 17 and Mary Ellen Nyhus age 15 both of Columbia, TN; her grandparents Katherine Nyhus Brown and Russ Brown of Plymouth, MI, and aunts and uncles: Mr. and Mrs. Michael & Darci McIntosh, Ms Julie Nyhus, Mr. and Mrs. Michael & Susan Nyhus, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory & Mary Schwartz and Mr. and Mrs. Keith & Kathy Schwartz and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Milton & Mary Ellen Schwartz and Ronald D. Nyhus. Pallbearers will include her six closest friends: Kayla Cothran, Ruth Moore, Emily McNabb, Ella Sharpe, Marley Davis, and Chaney McKinney.
