Alma Jean Cox, age 87, a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday morning, March 31, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 4-8PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on December 21, 1931 in Ross Creek, Kentucky, Jean was the daughter of the late Ernest McIntosh and the late Ollie Farmer McIntosh. She earned her master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and worked over forty years as a school teacher at West Point schools in West Point, Kentucky before retiring in 1989. In her past time, Jean enjoyed square dancing and raised miniature horses and donkeys. In 2005 she moved to Tennessee, shortly after the passing of her husband. She especially loved her beloved Yorkies.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Marcen) Jeffiers of Columbia; grandchildren: Jeanne Byrd (James Bratton) of Culleoka, James “Jimmy” (Deidre) Jeffiers of Trophy Club, TX, Sam Cox of Lexington, KY, Laura Cox of Lexington, KY, Teresa (Caleb) Lee of Lexington, KY; great grandchildren: Brandon, Blake, and Hayley Ballow, and Logan, Zoe, and Emma Grace Jeffiers; and great great grandchildren: Lola Cox and Silas and Avery Lee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Cox, Sr.; son, James H. Cox., Jr.; sister, Faye Hensley; and brother, Ralph McIntosh.
