Alphonse J. Castonguay, Jr.

Mr. Alphonse Joseph Castonguay, Jr., age 69, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, peacefully at his residence after a long battle with cancer.

Al, whom he was called by his friends, Joey by his family, and Pepaw by his grandchildren, was born June 4, 1952 in Bristol, Connecticut and was the son of the late Alphonse J. Castonguay, Sr. and the late Doris Marie Naegelen. He served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1972 after serving a tour in Vietnam. He worked for New Departure of Bristol Connecticut before taking a job with Saturn in Spring Hill, Tennessee. After more than 30 years of work, he was able to enjoy his retirement. He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, most recently with Post 4969 in Columbia. He enjoyed reading, playing cards with his friends, and loved collecting and restoring guns. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandkids, who he adored.

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Jeff) Barnes and their two children, Tinsley and Jansen, of Spring Hill; brothers, Guy (Diane) Castonguay of Morehead City, NC and Lionel Castonguay of Bristol, CT; sisters, Naomi Castonguay of Bristol, CT and Rosanna (Kevin) Smith of Humble, TX, as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Castonguay and son, Colin Castonguay.
