Mrs. Barbara Louise Patrick Cornelius, age 75, wife of Joe Cornelius, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, at her residence.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 4:00 – 5:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Maury Memorial Gardens where a private graveside service will be held. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on October 24, 1946, in Maury County, Tennessee, Barbara was the daughter of the late Jonas Clifford Patrick and the late Frances Pillow Patrick. She was a 1964 graduate of Carver Smith High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Knoxville College and her Master’s Degree in education from the University of Tennessee. She married Joe Cornelius on December 15, 1966. Barbara worked as a teacher in Knoxville for four years before transferring to Arkansas where she worked for one year. She later moved back to Tennessee where she worked for the Maury County Public School System for thirty-six years before retiring in 2012. Barbara was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, playing solitaire, and working crossword puzzles. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Joe Patrick Cornelius of Columbia, Armecia Bunch of Columbia, DeVon Lawrence Cornelius of Columbia, LaJade (Terry) Hayes of Columbia, brothers, Russell Fulton (Mattie) Patrick of South Carolina, Wayne (Jackie) Patrick of Columbia, Rickey (Sylvia) Patrick of Columbia, sister, Vera Patrick Merritt of Nashville, Chlora (Garfield) Nicholson of Nashville, Lena (William) Brown of Columbia, grandchildren, Jovonia (Blake) Gant, Patrick Bunch, great grandchild, Arnecia Gant, paternal aunt, Geneva Patrick, maternal aunt, Anna Margaret Primm, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Patrick.
