Bertha Ball

Bertha Lee Marlin Ball, age 102, a resident of Thompson Station, previously of Columbia, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Claiborne & Hughes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 4-8PM and again on Sunday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on February 7, 1917 in Columbia, Bertha was the daughter of the late Jesse Lee Marlin and the late Helen Estell Potts Marlin. She was a member Pleasant Mount Cumberland Presbyterian Church, previously Woodbine Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, going on trips and visiting with people. Above all, Bertha loved her family. One of her fondest memories was when her grandchildren were little; they stayed with her on Saturday night, and she took them to Dunkin Donuts on the way to church on Sunday morning. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters: Carol (Mike) Wilson of Bradyville, Claudette Reed of Thompson Station; grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris) Kauffman, Jackie (Steven) Blanton, Jimmy (Ladonne) Reed, David (Alex) Reed, Matthew Reed; great grandchildren: Madison Blanton, Caroline Blanton, Ben Kauffman, Jessie Kauffman, Joseph Reed; nieces: Julia Lane, Dian Parsley, Linda Gail Gidcomb; nephew: Robert Hobbs; and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ervin Ball; brother: R.J. Marlin; sisters: Odell Marlin, Vera Marlin Gidcomb, Mildred Marlin Parsley; and son in law: Joseph L. Reed.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Kauffman, Steven Blanton, Jimmy Reed, David Reed, Matthew Reed, and Mike Wilson.
