Betty Ruth Haynes

Betty Ruth Haynes, age 81, wife of Billy Haynes, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Brian Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on October 10, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, Betty was the daughter of the late Walter Earl Haley and the late Alberta Gmeinweiser Haley. She was a 1959 graduate of Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant and married Billy Haynes on October 15, 1959. She worked many years as a bookkeeper for different businesses in Maury County including Burt’s Dress Shop, Maury Construction, and Shouse Building Center. She later bought her own business, naming it Betty’s Old and New where she worked twenty years before retiring.

Betty enjoyed going swimming at the YMCA, working jigsaw puzzles, and traveling. She was an excellent cook and had a special love for animals. Betty was a member of Highland Church of Christ.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Stephen Haynes of Paris, TN. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Thomas “Tommy” Earl Haynes, David Wayne Haynes, infant brothers, Harold and Howard Haley, and beloved grandmothers, Annie “Lou” Gmeinweiser and Irene “Mama” Haley.
