Betty Lucille Melton, age 81, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Life Care Center.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Polk Memorial Gardens with Danny Clark officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on July 23, 1940, in Franklin, Tennessee, Betty was the daughter of the late Roscoe Cox and the late Ruth Spears Cox. She married Thomas Melton on December 23, 1957; he preceded her in death on January 16, 2022. A devoted wife and mother, Betty worked as a housewife and alongside her husband farming in vegetable and tobacco. She will always be remembered for her homemade biscuits, fried pies, and large collection of salt and pepper shakers. She enjoyed canning vegetables from their garden and going to yard sales. Betty was a member of Zion Acres Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Donnie (Melanie) Melton of Hampshire, Joe Thomas (Debbie) Melton of Summertown, Deborah McCormack of Columbia, daughter in law, Deborah Melton of Lawrenceburg, grandchildren, Dawn Melton, Jeremy Pope, Tabitha Brewer, Amanda Melton, Justin Melton, Samuel Melton, Sarah Melton, Hannah McCormack, Jacob McCormack, eighteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and devoted friends, Joe & Brenda Adams.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dwight David Melton, son in law, Mike McCormack, two sisters, and eight brothers.
