Brenda Gail Potts Hocker, age 68, a resident of Santa Fe, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at NHC Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Gipson Baucum, Jr. and Joe Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
A native of Maury County, Brenda was born on June 29, 1951 and was the daughter of the late Lester Potts and the late Margie Hill Potts. She was a 1969 graduate of Santa Fe School and earned her nursing degree from Columbia State Community College where she was considered the most outstanding student nurse. She worked as the Director of Surgery at Maury Regional Medical Center for many years and later began working for the State of Tennessee as a nurse for TennCare before retiring. Brenda was one of the original members of the Santa Fe Recreational Club and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, chapter Alpha Psi. Brenda enjoyed smocking, cross stitching, pottery and most recently, playing Bingo. Her family was most important to her, especially her children. She was a selfless lady who always took care of others all will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Brian Hocker (Jenny Hall) of Columbia; daughter, Brooke Hocker of Santa Fe; sister, Dianne (Terry) Roberts of Santa Fe; niece, Stephanie (Gipson) Baucum of Fairview; nephew, Brent (Katrina) Roberts of Summertown; great nieces and nephews: Claire, Will, Caroline, and Mathis Baucum; and best friend, Judy Culberson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Genevieve & Claude Hill.
Pallbearers will be: Brian Maxwell, Mark Shouse, Mark Graves, Brent Roberts, Winfred Baker, Chad Fox, Alan Fox, and Jeremy Risner. The staff at NHC Columbia will serve as honorary pallbearers.
