Calvin Wayne Atkins

Mr. Calvin Wayne Atkins, age 69, a lifetime resident of Santa Fe, passed away Sunday morning, November 10, 2019 in Columbia.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Potts Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 4-8PM and again on Thursday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 18, 1950 in Maury County, Calvin was the son of the late George Calvin Atkins and the late Mildred Hay Atkins Dile. He was the owner and operator of Calvin’s Paint & Body Shop in Hilltown for thirty years and worked as an equipment operator for the City of Columbia for ten years. He enjoyed passing on his knowledge and enthusiasm for restoring antique cars and going to car shows to his grandchildren. Some of his most cherished memories were spending time at the Tennessee River camping with his family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Carolyn Jean Potts Atkins; daughters: Dana Atkins Walters of Columbia, Briggett Atkins (Rodney) Collins of Culleoka; twin brother, Alvin Atkins of Lyles; grandchildren: Jonathan Walters of Columbia, Blake Walters of Columbia, Josie Collins of Culleoka, Hannah Collins of Culleoka; nephew, Calvin Layne Atkins of Lyles; brother in law, Charlie Potts of Santa Fe; and sisters in law: Kathleen Potts Mitchell, Earline Potts Morrow, Ester Potts (Wayne) Kinney all of Santa Fe, and Ruth Potts Smith of Culleoka.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son in law, Michael Carroll Walters on March 27, 2016; sisters in law: Marie Potts Goodson, Audrey Potts Slaughter, Donna Atkins; and brothers in law: Robert Potts, Frank Potts, R.B. Potts, and Junior Potts.

Pallbearers will be: Jonathan and Blake Walters, grandsons; Layne Atkins and Shane Potts, nephews; Sammy Haskins, Ronnie Jett, Darryl “Winnie” Hay and Ryan Kelley, cousins and Tim “Spiderman” Brewer, friend.
