Terrie Lynna Akins

October 27, 1957 — February 6, 2019

Mrs. Terrie Lynna Akins, age 61, wife of Johnny Akins, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Thessely Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to the funeral home. A visitation will also be held on Monday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on October 27, 1957 in Giles County, Terrie was the daughter of the late Fred E. Duke and the late Ernestine Owens Duke. She was educated through Jones High Elementary School in Giles County, Whittorne Middle School in Columbia, and Columbia Central High School. Terrie professed her life to Christ at a very early age and was a member of Canaan AME Church in Mt. Pleasant. Terrie previously worked at IBH Daycare in Columbia for many years and was also a substitute teacher in Maury County. She worked at Shipper’s Manufacturing in Mt. Pleasant for several years before becoming disabled. Terrie married Johnny Akins on May 1, 1992. A loving and devoted wife, she loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons: Darrick Duke of Columbia, Kevin (Scheneai Russell) Owens of Columbia,; brothers: Fred S. Duke of Mt. Pleasant, Chris (Melissa) Duke of Mt. Pleasant; sisters: Janet Marie Hopkins of Columbia, Brunetta Owens of Mt. Pleasant, Cynthia Armstrong Duke of Mt. Pleasant, Bridget Webster of Mt. Pleasant, Kesa Duke of Mt. Pleasant, Cathy Duke of Mt. Pleasant, Daphne Duke (Victor) Alderson of Columbia; grandchildren: Myisha Duke, Orlandus Green, LaMarcus Owens, Alvin Jones, LaQuintin Armstrong, Eric Green, Brittany Green, Abel Gray, Isaiah Gray, and Samaria Owens; great grandchildren: Amiyah Armstrong, Khori Amos; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Terrie’s nephews will serve as pallbearers, and her nieces will serve as flower bearers.
