Charles Morris Crumley, age 94, resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday February 26 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A graveside service for Mr. Crumley will be held Monday, March 3 at 12:00 Noon at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rick Points officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Heritage Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Michael Harrington Jr., Brent Warf, along with family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of DuPont and Spontex.
Born December 15, 1930 in Giles County, he was the son of the late Charles Allen and Ola Mae Walls Crumley and the husband of Violetta Raffae Crumley. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Boxer Aircraft Carrier, the only wooden flight deck vessel in the fleet. While serving on the Boxer, 2 bombs exploded on board, trapping Charles and several others below. Mr. Crumley worked in maintenance and electrical at DuPont and later Spontex. He started the Rescue Squad in Maury County and worked with the Civil Defense and did some auctioneering. Charles loved animals, especially his pets, Gizmo and Ms. Dolly. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to the love of his life, Violetta, he is survived by his loving daughters: Lynda Crumley of Columbia, Viola Harrington of Springfield, Nicki (Butch) Hickman and Patricia Luther, both of Columbia; grandchildren: Michael (Jackii) Harrington Jr., Kellie (Brent) Warf, Dustin (Katie) Hickman and Andrew (Jennifer) Luther; great grandchildren: Brett, Brenna, Brigham, Bryson, Caden, Emma Kate, Epperly, Charleston and 3 bonus great grandchildren.; great-great grandchild: Lola and 8 bonus great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death besides his parents, were his grandson: CW2 Clayton Hickman; his siblings: Tommy Crumley, Bobby Crumley, Marie Smith and Margaret Moore; son-in-law: David Luther.
