Charles Goolsby

Mr. Charles Richard Goolsby, age 74, a lifelong resident of Spring Hill, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at his residence.


The family will celebrate his life with a private graveside service in Neapolis Cemetery in October. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Charles was born in Columbia on February 7, 1947, and was the son of the late Sam William “Jobie” Goolsby and the late Mary Juanita Haney Staggs. He grew up in Spring Hill and was a 1965 graduate of Spring Hill High School and earned his associate degree from Columbia State Community College. When Charles was in the 4 th grade, he met Mary Alice Jackson, and they went on to become high school sweethearts. They married on July 9, 1966, and together they had three children. Charles was a devoted husband to Mary Alice for fifty years; she preceded him in death on January 23, 2017.

He served three years in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Charles worked over thirty-five years as a contractor, building custom homes. He was a master carpenter who also enjoyed doing yardwork. Charles was a faithful Christian who loved spending time with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his son, Richard Jackson (Jess) Goolsby of Phoenix, AZ, daughters, Jennifer (Christopher) Yancey of Franklin, TN, Maggie Goolsby (Rian Reeves) of Spring Hill, TN, brothers, James “Jimmy” (Suzanne) Goolsby of Columbia, TN, sisters, Sherry Kincaid of Austin, TX, Janie (Larry) Billington of Spring Hill, TN, Debbie Goolsby of Columbia, TN, Stephanie Baker of Columbia, TN, brother in law, Elmer Dwayne “E.D.” Brewer of Saltillo, TN, grandchildren, Heidi Yancey, Claire Yancey, Lily Hancock, Jackson Hancock, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Brewer and brother, Terry Staggs.
