Charles Clayton Newcomb

March 4, 1941 — August 5, 2021

Mr. Charles Clayton Newcomb, age 80, husband of Wanda Stanfill Newcomb, and a resident of Lewisburg, passed away Thursday morning, August 5, 2021, at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Larry Guin and Matt Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Unity in Maury Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 4, 1941, in Marshall County, Charles was the son of the late Claudius J. Newcomb and the late Lena Ruth Smotherman Newcomb. He married Wanda Faye Stanfill on May 1, 1993. Charles was a well-known bulldozer and heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, tending to his flowers, and watching Westerns. He was an excellent experimental cook; his family often jokingly referred to him as “Charles Ray.” He was frequently a winner when he played the lottery and traveled to Tunica. A wonderful family man, he was an outstanding husband who dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. Charles will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Christopher (Michelle) Newcomb of Bell Buckle, TN, Phillip (Michelle) Mills of Culleoka, TN, Joey (Mandy) Mills of Santa Fe, TN Melissa King of Sewanee, TN, Madonna (David) Eklund of Sewanee, TN, grandchildren, Dacota Newcomb, Kirsten Newcomb, Evan Mills, Ryan Mills, Garrett Mills, Gracie Mills, Garrison Mills, Gage Mills, Connor Huie, Tanner King, great grandchild, Blakely Grey Newcomb, brother in law, John (Laquita) Stanfill of Columbia, sisters in law, Tammy (Jay Bird) Mangrum of Santa Fe, Denise Eatherly of Santa Fe, Mary Ann Newcomb of College Grove, special friends, Janice “Mimi” Ledford, Misty Cook, Debbie & Kenny Comstock, Rebecca Vaughn, and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Newcomb and sister, Betty Ruth Randolph.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Comstock, Buster Stacy, Jeff Lynch, Rick Randal, Daniel Walls, Wayne Blackwell, Jason Mills, and James Caruthers.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his physicians, Dr. Shanita Coleman Dockery, Dr. Natalie Spradlin, Dr. Ben Gardner, and the staff of Hospice Compassus for the care and love they gave to Charles.
