Claudie Marie Vestal Walters

Claudie Marie Vestal Walters, age 98, a life-long resident of Highway 7 in Columbia, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the home of her daughter.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 10AM at Mt. Wesley-Akin Nazarene Church with David Ussry and Mike Dodrill officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Wesley-Akin Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 4-7PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marie was born on September 9, 1920in Maury County, and was the daughter of the late Claude E. Vestal and the late Anna Adams Vestal. She married Bracken Walters, Jr. on October 12, 1937; together they spent a wonderful 66 years. In addition to her work as a homemaker, she was a long-standing member of Mt. Wesley-Akin Nazarene Church. She was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking, quilting and working in her flower garden. Until the gradual decline of her health at age 96, she was always energetic and on the go. Above all, she loved and cherished the time spent with her family.

She is survived by her children: Jerry Walters of Columbia, Noma Jean (Jimmy) Dodson of Columbia, Shirley Hanback of Columbia, Kenneth Walters of Columbia, and Jimmy Woodall who was like a son to her; grandchildren: Sammy (Tammy) Walters, Allen Dodson, Troy Dodson, Mark Dodson, Gina (Mike) Beard, Tina (Stephen) Butler, James (Paula) Hanback, Jr., Jeremy (Allison) Hanback, Nicholas Walters; granddaughter in law: Dana Walters; great grandchildren: Ryan Walters, Katie Walters, Jonathan Walters, Blake Walters, Destiny (Brandon) Jones, Heather (Bobby) McMillan, Brandon (Julie) Dodson, Bracken (Destin) Dodson, Darian Harvey, Haiden Harvey, Devin (Tristin) Webb, Madison Butler, Molly Butler, Laura Bagnall, Will Spencer, Hensleigh Hanback, Lainey Hanback, Morgan Walters; and nine great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bracken Walters, Jr.; grandson: Michael Walters; sister: Blanche Johnson; son in law: James Hanback, Sr.; and daughter in law: Carol Walters.

Pallbearers will be: Sammy Walters, Allen Dodson, Troy Dodson, Mark Dodson, James Hanback, Jr., Jeremy Hanback, Stephen Butler, and Mike Beard.

Honorary pallbearers will include: Larry Fox, Jeff Fox, Reece Robertson, Larry Johnson, Leonard Johnson, Charles Pigg, Jimmy Woodall, and Eddie Woodall.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Avalon Hospice for their kind and caring service for the past fourteen months.
