Cleo Pointer, age 97, well-known, long-time educator in the Maury County Public School System, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at her residence in Cane Ridge, Tennessee.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. The family is gathering at Jonathan’s Grille in Spring Hill for a meal after the graveside service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Annie Cleopatra Hudson was born to Harvey Hudson and Zella Bee Hudson on June 24, 1926. She had an older brother named Sherman Hudson. She entered College Hill School from elementary until 12th grade and with her graduating in 1944. She finished as Salutatorian (second in her class).
One of Mrs. Pointer’s best friends who is still living is Mary Caldwell. Mrs. Pointer was baptized at a very young age and was an active member for well over half a century at Burns Springs Church of Christ and at Carmack Blvd Church of Christ. She attended Tennessee State A&I and graduated in which she was immediately accepted to teach at Carver-Smith High. (Mom pledged as a Delta Sigma). She also received her Masters at Knoxville College. Mrs. Pointer met her husband while at College Hill School and eventually married John Thomas Pointer. They were happily married for nearly 60 years. She gave birth to two boys, Reginal Van (oldest) and John Leslie (youngest). They lived in the College Hill community on Glade Street for the majority of their marriage. Cleo and John contributed to the community in various ways. They joined and enjoyed their social club gatherings for Men, for Women as well as for the family. They took their boys across the nation while utilizing the Green Mile Book and after Segregation had ended and Integration began. And once the Voting Rights Bill Act was signed into law in 1965 and for well over 50 years, Mr. and Mrs. Pointer were public servants who volunteered and assisted the community at the voting booths.
On January 10, 2024, Annie Cleopatra left this earth to be with the Lord. She leaves behind her loving son John and loving daughter-in-law, Vicki, along with two grandsons, Sean and Max Pointer and one granddaughter, Danielle Pointer Northern along with her great grandchildren, (from the Pointers – Tyson and Presely) and (from the Northerns – Dre, Dallas, Dashia, Dakota, and Dewayne).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Pointer, son, Reginal Pointer, brother, Sherman Hudson, and grandson, James Pointer.
Pallbearers will be Sean Pointer, Andre Bullock, Orlando Cox, Quinton Jones, Joshua Graham Johnson, and Carl Wayne Burkeen.
