Colleen Potts

Jennie Colleen Potts, age 82, a resident of Santa Fe, passed away Saturday morning, May 15, 2021 at her residence.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Santa Fe Cemetery with Kenneth Jenkins and Keith Baker officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Colleen was born on December 26, 1938 in Maury County and was the daughter of the late Ernest Fitzgerald and the late Pearl Hill Fitzgerald. She was a 1957 graduate of Santa Fe Unit School where she played basketball. On June 1, 1957, she and Wilburn Potts eloped to Mississippi. They went on to celebrate sixty-two years of marriage until his passing on February 14, 2020. Colleen helped run the former Potts Grocery in Santa Fe for several years. She was a teacher’s assistant in both Nashville and at The Lighthouse Church where she was a devoted member. Colleen was an avid Lady Vols fan and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching reality television shows, taking trips to the beach, and camping with her family. Her favorite treat was a honeybun and she loved getting comfortable under her warm electric blanket. Colleen was known as a passionate caregiver to all whether it be cooking meals, cleaning, or comforting in prayer.

She is survived by her sons: Barry (Regina) Potts of Fort Mill, SC, Jerry (Tonjia) Potts of Santa Fe, TN; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Scott) Weygand, Hannah (Justin) Turney, Harrison (Courtney) Potts, Kara Potts, Molly Potts; great grandchildren: Maralyn Weygand, Emalyn Weygand, Baylor Turney, Leighton Turney, Laurence Weygand; special niece who was like a daughter, Patsy Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Sonny Fitzgerald and Paul Fitzgerald and sisters, Evelyn Burns and Peggy Crenshaw.

Pallbearers will be Elizabeth Weygand, Hannah Turney, Harrison Potts, Kara Potts, Molly Potts, Scott Weygand, Justin Turney, Courtney Potts, Erik Johnson, and Bridget Smith.
