Curt Bernard Stone

February 25, 1940 — March 21, 2019

Mr. Curt Bernard Stone, age 79, husband of Ellen Backstrom Stone, and a resident of Edenburg Drive in Columbia, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 3PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Saline officiating. Entombment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, adjacent to the funeral home. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 1-3PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on February 25, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, Curt was the son of the late Carl Stone and the late Betty Hansson Stone. He attended the University of Illinois and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Employed nearly twenty years with Cummins, he played a significant role in the site selection and operational start-up team at the Jamestown, NY plant. The remainder of his career was spent at General Motors where he worked in project management and purchasing and was part of the original operations start-up team at the Spring Hill manufacturing site. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and listening to classical music. Curt was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Nashville. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather whose greatest joy was being with his family. He especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandbabies.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Ellen, he is survived by his daughters: Wendy (William) Messer of Indianapolis, IN, Sherri (Norman) Hein of Summertown, TN, Amy (Terry) Brannum of Franklin, TN; grandchildren: Emily Stone (James) Alcorn, Ethan Stone (Ashton) Hein, Greta Ellen Messer, Hope Christina Messer, Benjamin August Brannum, Ellen Sophie Brannum, Nicholas Evan Brannum, John Christopher Brannum; and great grandchildren: Griffin Sage Hein and Stone Jameson Alcorn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Carl Stone and grandchildren: Curt Joseph Messer and Noah William Messer.

Pallbearers will be William Messer, Norman Hein, Terry Brannum, Ethan Hein, James Alcorn, II, Nicholas Brannum, John Brannum, and 2 nd Lieutenant Benjamin Brannum.
