Daniel C. Batey, age 85, husband of Patricia Cunningham Batey and a resident of Columbia, died Friday, April 26 at Life Care Center of Columbia.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at Heritage Funeral Home. A private graveside service will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born Dec. 4, 1933 in Rutherford County, Tenn., Dan was the son of the late James Lafayette Batey and the late Ruby Lynne Ridings Batey and grew up in the Blackman community. He was a graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School and Middle Tennessee State College. He served as a private in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in France and Turkey. He was a longtime employee of Retail Credit Company, later Equifax, in Columbia. He was a member of Berea Church of Christ in Columbia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Dan (Anne) Batey of Williamsport, daughter Twila Batey Williams of Spring Hill, sister Katie Tramel of Nashville, grandchildren Drew Pogue of Kettering, Ohio, Patrick (Brie) Pogue of Murfreesboro, Jill (Robert) Poteete of Spring Hill, Ashley (Cody) Sellers of Columbia, Mo., Laura Batey of New York, N.Y., Will Batey of Knoxville, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by infant daughter Lorena Lynne Batey, brother Zack Batey of Huntsville, Ala., and sister Jane Jordan of Murfreesboro.
The family expresses its gratitude to the staff of Compassus hospice care and the personnel of Moorecare ambulance service.
