A trailblazer, Demetrius made history as the first African American graduate of Zion Christian Academy. His dedication to his craft led him to become a compassionate paramedic for Marshall County, where he dedicated his life to saving lives. 

Beyond his professional achievements, Demetrius was a gifted musician with a passion for jazz. He would often spend his evenings jamming with friends, his guitar skills captivating everyone who listened. 

A sports enthusiast, Demetrius’s high school basketball career was nothing short of spectacular. He racked up over 1,000 points, showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. 

Demetrius’s life was a testament to the power of love and laughter. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends, always ready for thrilling adventures that included roller coasters, swimming, and nature walks. 

But Demetrius’s true passion lay in deep, meaningful conversations about life, faith, and the pursuit of one’s dreams. He had a knack for connecting with others on a profound level, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. 

Demetrius James Cox, a man of extraordinary talent, unwavering kindness, and an insatiable love for life, will forever be remembered in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy lives on, inspiring generations to embrace their passions, pursue their dreams, and never stop living life to the fullest.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Pinecrest Memorial. His body will lie in state on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
