Dorothy Jean Hubbell

Dorothy Jean Hubbell, age 88, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center. 

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Dwight Boswell and Randy Sprouse officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Sunday from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Born on December 10, 1936, in Williamson County, Dorothy was the daughter of the late James McCandless and the late Mary Alice Griggs McCandless. Dorothy was a spirited and hardworking woman who loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, tending to her flowers, and chopping wood—outworking many. She was a talented cook and baker, renowned for her delicious donuts and coconut cakes. Dorothy also delighted in collecting chicken and Eeyore figurines. Above all, she deeply loved her family and found immense joy in her grandson, Terry, who was her pride and joy, as well as her beloved dog, Missy.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Charles) Estis, brothers, Ewell McCandless, Harry Joe McCandless, sisters, Tiny Johnson, Hattie Mary Nesbitt, grandson, Terry (Ashley) Estis, granddaughters, Kay (Doug) Dickens, Jeannie Black, great grandson, Gary Estis and several other great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wesley McCandless, Carl McCandless, Loyd McCandless, and sisters, Hazel McCandless Montgomery, Rhetha Burckett, and Lelia McCandless. 

Pallbearers will be Terry Clayton Estis, Sean Daniels. Doug Dickens, Thomas “Bobo” Dickens, Steven Evans, and Cameron Evans. 

In honor of Dorothy’s life and spirit, the family kindly requests that attendees dress casually for the services.
