Edna Pomeroy

Edna Mai Sweeney Pomeroy, age 88, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021.

Edna was born on July 10, 1932, in Davidson County. She was a graduate of Cohn High School in Nashville and earned her bachelor’s degree from Belmont University. She married Dr. Howard C. Pomeroy in April of 1951; he preceded her in death on November 24, 2016.

Edna worked as a registered nurse for many years at Parkview Hospital in Nashville and later alongside her husband in his general medical practice. She was an avid reader and supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers. Edna was of the Christian faith.

She is survived by her son, Randy (Kim) Pomeroy of Columbia, grandchildren, Maudie Mae Johnson, Don “Bubba” Johnson, William “Will” Johnson, cousins, Lawrence and Teresa Wilson, and special friend and caregiver, Carolyn Baxter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin Bryant and Addie Mai Cooper Sweeney and Robert and Maude Owen, sister, Joy Luther, brother-in-law, Captain Norman Kennedy Luther, and numerous siblings.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to www.lupus.org, www.mpssociety.org, or a charity of your choice.

A private burial was held with Rick Points officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
