Mr. Thomas Edward “Ed” Jacobs, age 89, husband of Ruby Joyce Jack Jacobs, and a resident of Columbia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at his residence.

Burial will follow in West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 1:00 – 3:30 PM at the funeral home. The family requests that anyone who plans on attending the visitation or funeral service, please wear a mask. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on August 28, 1932, in Maury County, Ed was the son of the late George Edward Jacobs and the late Sadie Pearl Fitzgerald Jacobs. He met his loving wife in 1954, and after a short courtship, they were married on October 23, 1954. Soon after their marriage, he was drafted into the Korean War where he served as M.P. Upon returning from the service, he and Ruby lived in Nashville where he worked for General Electric. In August of 1960, their first child, Edwina Jacobs, was born. They moved back to Columbia soon after where he began his twenty-year career with E.I. DuPont. Their second child, Patsy Jacobs Hedrick, was born in 1961. His family lived on the family farm for the next sixty years. He loved his cows and bulls and got back to his true roots when he started farming in the seventies. A memory his family will never forget is when he took down a picture of his daughter and replaced it with a picture of his prize Santa Gertrudis bulls. He could talk for hours about farming and his cattle. Ed also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was always working to provide a wonderful life for his family. He was a builder, electrician, plumber, mechanic, farmer, and realtor-- a jack of all trades. Ed enjoyed meeting new people and telling “his stories” and was always trying to help someone. He loved the Lord and never missed a chance to talk to people about the Lord. He was a member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over fifty years. He served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and helped build the existing church. Ed was currently a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Ruby of sixty-six years, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Patsy (Jans) Hedrick and granddaughter, Brandi (Chris) Bolton.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Sparkman, and his daughter Edwina Joyce Jacobs who passed away on September 21, 2021.

Pallbearers will be Steve Audrey, Brandon Bone, Enoch George, Robert Pogue, Jim Stoltz, and Adam West. Honorary pallbearers will include Doug Williams, Gary Jack, Jimmy Damron, Joe Roberson, Phil Sellers, Doug Love, Betty Savage, Margie Owens, K.L. & Betty Osteen, and the adult Sunday school class at Knob Creek Baptist Church.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the wonderful caregivers Ed had over the past four years, Melissa White, Judy Moncrief, Shannon Ellis, and Jennifer Bradley and several others who loved and cared for him like he was their father. They heard his many stories that he loved telling. He loved all of you, and you were part of his family. Also, thank you to Avalon Hospice for your care during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Association: 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or the Gideons International: 50 Century Blvd, Nashville, TN 37214.
