Eleanor O'Neal Grooms

April 8, 1932 — March 9, 2020

Mrs. Eleanor O’Neal Warner Bates Grooms passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Mrs. Grooms, a native of Perry County, made her home in Lewis County for over 40 years.  Her passion in life was to help others.  She served as an assistant to Dr. Earl Salhany in Lobelville, TN for many years and at her retirement was a Care Giver with South Central Human Resource Agency in Hohenwald.  She loved to work in her yard and flower gardens and rarely missed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in a sporting event. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafting.  She was an excellent cook and her meals fed many as there was always room at her table for one more.

Mrs. Grooms, better known as “Granny” was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Alice McGee Warner.  Her husband Henry Arthur “H.A” Bates.  Husband, Billy Grooms and sister, Virginia “Ginger” Warner Marrs Swearingen.  She is survived by her five children Dolores (Boyd) Doyle of Hohenwald, TN.  Judy (Curtis) Oaks of Madison, TN.  Larry Bates of San Francisco, CA.  Debbie (Kenneth) Daniel of Hohenwald, TN and Beverly (Gary) Gluch of Chapel Hill, TN.  Seven grandchildren, Ellie (Kevin) Hines, Alicia (George) Frogge, Kim (Pat) Denton, Micheal Talley, Andrea (Neal) Hendon, Jennifer (Jason) Callis & Kevin (Cortney) Daniel.  Fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Her siblings, Kay (Rodney) Davis of Hohenwald, TN.  Allene Armstrong of Flatwoods, TN, Betty Ann Long of Union City, TN, Jimmy Warner of Florence, AL and Jerry Warner of Elizabethton, TN. and many nieces and nephews.

The family invite friends and neighbors to join them on Sunday, March 15 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Oak Grove Methodist Church in Hohenwald for a Celebration of Life.  As much as she loved flowers, the family asks that in lieu of sending them to make a donation to the Lewis County Cancer Fund in her name.

Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
