Floyd Norman, 85, a longtime resident of the Culleoka Community passed away Friday, May 7 th at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 12 th at 2:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastors David Buffaloe and Ezell Rose officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 12 th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on February 12, 1936 in Giles County, he was the 9 th child out of twelve born to Sam and Lena Mae Cummins Norman.
Until December 2020, he was an employee with the Maury County Solid Waste Collection Centers. He was a retired employee of Consolidated Aluminum where he worked in General Services and the Purchasing and Receiving Departments. For 25 years, he owned and operated Norman Motors. He was one of the first car dealers in Maury County to “Tote the Note” or what is now known as Buy Here, Pay Here. When he was out, former customers would stop him and tell their stories about the first car they bought from him. He had a love for older vehicles and use to own a 1955 Chevrolet. Every Sunday he would insist on taking his family out for afternoon rides.
He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church, an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Maury County Historical Society. He was a 45 year member of the Culleoka Lion Club where he served as President, Vice-President, Zone Chairman and Deputy District Governor.
He enjoyed tending to his flowers, watching the Tennessee Titans, UT Football, the Atlanta Braves and speaking on the phone with his nephews Robert and George Moore.
His favorite role in life was being called Grandaddy or G-Daddy by his great grandsons Ethan and Eli and attending their sporting events. At these events he looked forward to his niece, Tereasa Sullivan, saving him a seat and buying his popcorn.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn King Norman, he is survived by his daughters Angela Colvett of Columbia TN and Sherry Norman of Lexington SC; grandson Jason (Heather) Hardison of Culleoka; great grandsons Ethan Hardison and Eli Hardison of Culleoka; brother, Robert (M amie) Norman and sister in law, Martha (Roy) Norman; Special friends, John Church, Jerry Kennedy, Gerald Atkisson, Jimmy Brown, Sheriff Bucky Rowland and Carl Moore, who has been there for him and his family since his illness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Curley, Roy, Howard, R.L., James Hubert and Gene Norman; Linda Hedrix, Dot Adams, Leona Lyons and Pauline Pope.
