Foster “Butch” Wood Wimberley, age 81, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at his residence.
Born on October 14, 1943, in Long Beach, California, Butch was the son of the late James Wimberley and the late Helen Foster Wimberley and named after his great grandfather, Civic Leader Eli C. Foster. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California before serving nearly eight years in the United States Air Force.
With a passion for aviation, Butch dedicated his career as an airline mechanic, working at several small airports, including the Maury County Regional Airport in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. His love for airplanes extended beyond his profession, as he spent much of his time building and working on them. An outdoor enthusiast, he found joy in nature and was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his daughters, Kelly (James) Mullis of Columbia, TN, Cindy Greene of Columbia, TN, sister, Mary Wimberley of California, grandchildren, Bradley Wimberley, Cassie Mullis, Casey Mullis, Joseph Mullis, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Wimberley and sister, Margaret “Peggy” Zavala.
A graveside service will be held at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula, Mississippi at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
