Fowler “Muscles” Culberson, age 90, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Life Care Center.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Sister Inez Jones officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army. A visitation will also be held on Friday, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
Born on January 4, 1935, in Columbia, Fowler was the son of the late Charlie Eugene Culberson and the late Christine Warren Culberson. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. After his military service, he worked for twenty-one years as a street sweeper operator for the City of Columbia until his retirement. He later worked part-time as a janitor at First Baptist Church.
From 1959 to 1968, Fowler was a mechanic and pit crew member for Charlie Stofel and Malcolm Brady, who competed in the NASCAR Modified Special Division at the Nashville Motor Speedway. In 2011, Fowler and other team members were honored with an invitation to the Bristol Motor Speedway's 50th anniversary, where he was interviewed for his contributions to racing history.
He was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and a devoted member of Emmanuel Church of Christ Oneness-Pentecostal.
He is survived by his children, Donna (Bill) Cosey of Columbia, Joyce Crafton of Columbia, Floyd (Theresa) Culberson of Hohenwald, Teresa Culberson of Columbia, Michael (Mary) Culberson of Columbia, Ricky Culberson of Lewisburg, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Arlene LaRue Culberson, Lossie Johns Culberson, son, Kim Fowler Culberson, and siblings, Gene Culberson, Sara Culberson, and Ruthie Pearl Wiley.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Charles Stofel, Steve Culberson, Jimmy Culberson, Jason Hay, Johnny Raines, and Jimmy Davidson.
