Gary Haydel

Mr. Gary Raymond Haydel, age 69, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 at his home in Thompson’s Station surrounded by his family.

A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the Church of the Nativity in Spring Hill with Father Jerry Strange officiating. Visitation will begin at 10am and mass will begin at 11am. Following the mass there will be a reception at the church to celebrate Gary’s life. The inurnment will follow at the Garden of Resurrection in Maury Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 9, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Gary was the son of Mildred Giraud Haydel Chenevert and the late Lloyd Haydel. Prior to his retirement, Gary co-owned Haydel’s Bakery in Jefferson Parish with his brother, David Haydel. He was a baker, an entrepreneur and never met a stranger. He had a special love for animals, and often said, “You can tell a lot about a person’s character by the way they loved their animals.”

He was a member of Church of the Nativity in Spring Hill and a member of the National Rifle Association. Gary enjoyed spending time with his family on vacations at the beach and going to Disney World. Gary also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and playing his guitar, accordion, and tambourine.

Gary is survived by his wife: Elizabeth Haydel; daughters: Jennifer (Perry) Britz, Christine (Benjamin) Buckner; brother: David (Dorothy) Haydel; and his eight grandchildren: Sydney, Claire and Luke Britz and Grace, Andrew, Zeke, Elijah and Gabe Buckner.
