Gertrude Athan of Columbia, Tennessee

Gertrude Mae Athan, “Penny” to family and friends, of Lewisburg, passed away December 22, 2018, in the company of her daughter, at Maury Regional Medical Center. She was 70 years of age.

Penny was born on Thursday, March 18, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of Frances and, the late, William Athan. She had a gypsy soul never really settling in any one place too long; she loved traveling to see family and friends. Penny was a God loving woman who could be found reading and studying the bible daily. Her favorite way to spend her days was visiting with her grandchildren, and in the company of her fur baby.

Penny was a truly creative soul who expressed her love of God and family through sketching, if you received a card or letter you could always count on a Penny original. She loved to spend time with family and friends. During visits she would never shy from a good board or card game.

Beloved mother of Glenda Athan and Star Collins; cherished grandmother of Joey, Brittany (John), Zoie, and River; dearest great grandmother of Abel and Remington; Survived by her mother Frances Athan; siblings Richard (Loretta), Ada, Diane, Gary (Jeff), Brenda and Jerry; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved furbaby Molly.

Preceded in death by her dad William Athan, brother George Athan, and daughter Jackie Pearson.
