Gertrude Foster

Gertrude Lucille McCoy Foster, age 85, a resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 22, 1935 in Lynnville, Tennessee, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Clint McCoy and the late Annie Pearl Evans McCoy and wife of the late Buford Foster. She worked 25 years for Inter City Products in Lewisburg before retiring in 2002. In her spare time she loved to quilt, sew, knit, cross stitch and work in her flower gardens.

Gertrude professed a love for Christ at an early age where she joined a Baptist church in Lynnville. She relocated to Columbia where she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Anthony Paschall until her health failed her.

She is survived by her sister, Jean (Richard) Wyatt of Columbia, TN; brothers: Buford (Maggie) McCoy of Columbia, TN, John (Gloria) McCoy of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren: Kashka Walker, Karlessie Foster; great grandchild, Elijah Foster Phillips; sister in law, Angela McCoy; devoted niece and caregiver, Angel Hall; devoted friend, Mary Horton; devoted cousin, Gladys Braden; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Foster; brothers: Leroy Wagstagg, Eddie McCoy, Ezell McCoy, Clint McCoy, Jr., Amos McCoy, Joe McCoy, Nathaniel McCoy; and sister, Beatrice Frierson.

Pallbearers will be: Joey McCoy, Undra McCoy, Stanley McCoy, Adam McCoy, Chris Polk, Shawn McCoy, Joseph McCoy , Rickey McCoy, Dre’ Hall, and Jaylan Hall. Honorary pallbearers will include: Ka’Drion Frierson, Jamari Brown, Dennis Hall, and Jeremy Brown. Gertrude’s nieces will serve as flower girls.
