Gladys Arleen Holt

July 7, 1944 — March 10, 2020

Born in Davidson County on July 7, 1944, Gladys was the daughter of the late Walter Clay and Evelyn Chloe Nichols. She married her soulmate, Walter Holt, on June 4, 1960. Married for 54 years, she was a living example of a loving wife and mother. Gladys was retired from Lasko Products but her true passion was loving others. She loved her family dearly and spent as much time with them as possible. She adored her dogs, Lizzie, Daisy Mae and Pokey Puppy, and considered them a part of her family as well.

Gladys was a people person who loved just about everyone she met. She loved meeting new people and had the rare ability to draw people in with just a conversation. If Gladys knew you, she loved you and that love was tangible to everyone who received it. She often said that while her lap may be full, it never ran out.

An avid music lover, Gladys especially loved country music, though she was often seen listening to anything from traditional hymns to the Coasters. She loved to laugh and dance. Gladys leaves behind a legacy of forgiveness, treating others with love and respect, having faith in all seasons, but most importantly, the value of family.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and daughter. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Minnie Katherine Holt and two brothers Eugene Nichols and Everett Wayne Nichols. She is survived by a sister, Betty (Stewart) Cruickshank of Nashville and a brother Ricky Nichols of Nashville and a host of nieces and nephews.

As a loving mother, she is survived by four daughters and one son. Arleen Moore (Bob Hillman) of Columbia, Linda (Bobby) Thompson of Pulaski, Betty (Mark) Savage of Columbia, Walter H. Holt, Jr. of Columbia, and Laura Holt (Jeff Cates) of Columbia.

Much loved, she is survived by twelve grandchildren: Deanna Nay (Nicholas Bobo) of Columbia, Shaun (Ashley) Nay of Hohenwald, Vanessa (Steven) Berry, Kimberly (Billy) Birdsong and Krystal Mitchell all of Pulaski, Walter (Angela) Holt, III, Charles (Holt) Hodge (Rhonda Clark), Michael Holt, Preston Holt, Jonathon Holt (Ashley Heintz), Daniel Holt and Austin Holt all of Columbia. And twenty-three great grandchildren including one due in June.

Grandsons and Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staff and care providers at Magnolia Health Care, Maury Regional Hospital and Hospice Compassus Care for all their help in taking care of their loved one. Also a special thanks to Donna Walters and Judy Pierce for the special care and friendship to Gladys.
