James H Hubbell of Columbia, Tennessee

July 17, 1926 - November 6, 2018

Mr. James H. Hubbell, age 92, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Clay Derryberry officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 17, 1926 in Giles County, he was the son of Thomas Hubbell and Zora Lovell Hubbell. He attended Stiversville School in Giles County prior to opening The Hubbell Brothers Grocery Store with his brothers. Prior to that, he drove a peddling truck for his brother’s grocery store in McCains. He retired from DuPont after 19 years of service.

James had a special love for playing the fiddle and the Grand Ole Opry. He also loved gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for getting on the floor and playing marbles and Chinese Checkers with his children and grandchildren. James was a longtime member of Highland Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife: Doris Hubbell; Daughters: Debbie (Johnny) Van Atta of Bradyville, Sherry (Grant) Hitt of Brentwood; Grandchildren: Dana Hollingsworth, Brian Clark, Amy Morris-Clark, Lesley Heiland, Lauren McMahan, Lisa Tong, Brandon Hitt, and Caycee Rose.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Zora Hubbell; Daughter: Judy Clark; Brothers: William Hubbell, Samuel Hubbell, Hooper Hubbell and Gene Hubbell; Sisters: Inous Hickman, Lois Hickman, Nina Jay Johns, Nona Pearl Hindman Stafford, Lola Dee Dunn, Lura Ella Childress, and Louise Isbell.

Family will serve as pallbearers.
