James Edward Jones

Mr. James Edward Jones, age 75, a resident of Columbia, passed away Thursday morning, February 27, 2020 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 12PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 3-7PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on September 2, 1944 in Athens, Alabama, James was the son of the late Charlie Lee Jones and the late Eva Lee Hagermaker Jones. He enjoyed his job working as a painter for many years. He was a big people person who enjoyed working in the yard, fishing and working on cars. James also loved hanging out with his buddies and drinking coffee. He had a very special love for his dogs, Becky Lynn and Tiny.

He is survived by his daughters: Tina (Randall) Jones of Ethridge, Linda (Virgilio) Gonzalez of Columbia, Melissa (Charles) Collins of Centerville; sisters: Lois Ann (Buck) Fisher of Columbia, Elizabeth Jones of Columbia, Minnieree Fisher of Columbia; grandchildren: Dustin Brooks, James Brooks, Charles Brooks, Mary Collins, Joshua Collins, Estell Gonzalez, Virgilio “Virgil” Gonzalez, Jr., Paige (Michael) Mash, Thomas Morris; and two great grandchildren: James and Waylon Brooks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Orville Jones and sister, Inez Jones.

Pallbearers will be: Terry Cox, Dustin Brooks, James Brooks, Charles Brooks, Joshua Collins, and Virgilio Gonzalez, Jr. Charles Collins will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
